Tracing birth parents from a 1955 adoption
Challenge:
In 1955, adoption records were sealed under strict legal rules. Adopted children had no legal right to identifying information about their birth parents, and many records used generic reference numbers or incomplete data. These laws, shaped by the Adoption of Children Act 1949, made it nearly impossible for families to reconnect even decades later.
Our Client’s Goal:
A client approached KnightVision seeking answers about his fathers birth parents. He had been adopted in 1955, and little information was known about his birth parents.
Our Process:
Using the original birth certificate, we cross-referenced available adoption records and used genealogical techniques to trace his lineage. Through public archives, GRO records, and detailed family tree mapping, we identified both biological parents, tracked down siblings and cousins, and even located current profiles via social media.
The Outcome:
Our research successfully reunited the client’s father with the identity of his birth family, overcoming a 70-year legal and bureaucratic wall. The discovery brought emotional healing, answers, and a sense of belonging to the entire family.
